Top Ten Tuesday--Authors I'd die to meet

*comes slinking back in*
Um, I didn't mean to be out for that long.

Anyway, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at the Broke and the Bookish.  Each week we get a new list-making theme full of bookish possibilities.  Today's theme is top ten authors I'd die to meet.  Here are mine in no particular order:

John Donne--I'm writing my dissertation on him; I love his poetry.  There are so very very many questions I would like to ask him.

William Shakespeare--I could not ever pass up a chance to meet the "sweet swan of Avon"

Agatha Christie has given me more hours of reading pleasure than any other author.  I'd love to pick her brain.

Dorothy L. Sayers--author of the brilliant Lord Peter and advocate of women's rights.

Daphne du Maurier--Rebecca was one of my formative books.  It's a nearly perfect book.

William Faulkner--I know he was a bit of a bastard, but since I grew up reading Faulkner and learning about my home through his eyes, I think we'd have some interesting conversations anyway.

Kazuo Ishiguro--The Remains of the Day is heartbreakingly beautiful and so very understated.  I'd just love to talk to him about how he "makes" characters.

J.K. Rowling--um, Harry Potter.  'Nuff said

Marjorie Hillis--She had a wonderful wit, a strong sense of optimism and was able to hold her own with anyone.  I would really enjoy swapping leisure time activity ideas with her.

Nancy Mitford--That whole family is fascinating, whacked but fascinating.

  4. Laurie--hehehehe, I would understand not necessarily wanting to meet Mr. Faulkner. By all accounts, he could be a bit of a jerk. Still, he was utterly brilliant!

I have seen the Snape posters! *fans self* Rickmania is in full swing on Tumblr. They tumblr-bombed the MTV favorite HP character awards...and Snape won! hehehehehe

Ellie--*glomps you* It's so good to be back. I'd be interested to hear who's on your list anyway. And I'm way behind on stuff too *coughGormenghastcough*

art2cee2--Thanks so much! Great writers are such an inspiration. Who else would make your list?

  5. John Donne! Yes!

Faulkner? The only thing I'd like to ask him is--"Punctuation...you've obviously heard of it. Think maybe you could have used it a bit more often?" :-) Stream of consciousness is so not my thing.

Glad to see you back on the interweb/bloggy thing.

  7. Hi Bev--
LOL at the Faulkner comment! I kind of like the stream of consciousness stuff...otherwise, I never would have been introduced to Gabriel Garcia Marquez and I really enjoy his books.
It's good to be back. How are you?

Laura--Wouldn't that be awesome? I bet he was really, really a cool guy and undoubtedly brilliant.
